Mr. Bobby L. Ashley, 77, of Hornbeak died 3:20 a.m. Thursday, January 8, 2009, at his home.
Funeral services will be conducted 1:00 p.m. Monday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Union City. Father Richard Cortese will officiate. There will be no visitation. A private burial will follow at a later date.
Mr. Ashley was born March 11, 1931, in Hornbeak, son of the late Tommy and Gladys (Tucker) Ashley. He was raised in the Church of Christ but had embraced the Catholic faith in recent months. He was baptized, received his first communion, confirmed and was annointed. Mr. Ashley retired May 1, 1993 after 32 years of service with the state school system. He was in general maintenance and kept boiler systems operational. In addition he was a school bus driver and a Korean War veteran.
Bobby was very active in the community. He served as an election judge in Hornbeak for many years and had served as an Obion County Highway Commissioner for two years. His hobbies were fishing and hunting.
Mr. Ashley is survied by his wife, Marhta (Hogg) Ashley formerly of Samburg and Plantation, Florida; three sons and daughters-in-law, Bruce and Janice Ashley, Brian and Julia Ashley and Bart and Tammy Ashley; two stepchildren, Suzanne Gierlinski and John B. Arnold III; six grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by the mother of his children, Joyce (Willett) Ashley. They were married for 51 years.
