Mr. Billy George "Bill" Griffin, 77, of Union City died 6:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 16, 2013, at Golden Living Center in Union City.
Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Friday in the chapel of Edmaiston-Mosley Funeral Home. Dr. Bobby Williams, Rev Tony Smith and Rev. Drew Hayes will officiate. Burial will follow in Mt. Ararat Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Edmaiston-Mosley Funeral Home from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Thursday.
Pallbearers will be Tony Griffin, Claudie Cranford, Barry Cranford, Eugene Fletcher, Gene Bone and Wayne Becton. Honorary pallbearers will be Wallace Becton, Rev. James Westbrook and Bill Wilkerson.
Mr. Griffin was born September 19, 1935, in Obion County, son of the late Elmer Edward Griffin, Sr. and the late Mary Willie "Bill" (Cranford) Griffin. He married Mary Ann (Duncan) Griffin May 7, 1997. She survives. Bill was a 1967 graduate of John A. Gupton Mortuary College in Nashville and had been employed at White Ranson Funeral Home for 15 years. He retired from the former Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company after 19 years of service. He was a former Union City city councilman, member of Mt. Ararat Cumberland Presbyterian Church and served in the United States Army.
He is also survived by two daughters, Sonja Von Griffin of Kentucky Lake and Lisa Gail Griffin of Union City; two sons and daughters-in-law, Russell Lee and Laurie Griffin of Union City and Kevin Dewayne and Rhonda Griffin of Rives; two step daughters, Marilynn Annette Callis of Simpsonville, South Carolina and Karen Jeanine Baker of Martin; his brother and sister-in-law, Elmer Edward Griffin Jr. and Glenda Griffin of Union City; two grandchildren, Brandon Griffin of Rives and Brandy June Griffin of Union City; four step grandchildren, Zach Callis of Nashville, Heather Baker and Carman Baker both of Martin and Coby Puckett of South Fulton; three step great grandchildren; his sisters-in-laws and brothers-in-laws, Melvin and Marie Williams of Union City , Pamela Jackson of South Fulton, Frank and Carol Ruch of Festus, Missouri, Hazel Byassee and Ricky and Susie Byassee all of Clinton, Kentucky and Tommy and Rebecca Stinson of Arlington, Kentucky; his niece, Teresa Fletcher of Union City; and his nephew, Tony Griffin of Palm Springs, California.
He was preceded in death by his former wife, Peggy June (Butts) Griffin; and a infant sister.
