Obituary

Dr. William B. Dunlap, Jr., 74, of Union City passed away peacefully Sunday, September 5, 2021, with his family by his side.

Funeral services will be conducted 1:00 p.m. Thursday at St. James Episcopal Church in Union City. Rev. Chuck McMillen will officiate. Entombment will follow in Obion County Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be held at St. James Episcopal Church from 11:00 a.m. until the hour of services Thursday.

Due to the current COVID-19 pandemic, the family requests mask to be worn at visitation and funeral and to social distance.

Pallbearers will be Jimmy Thompson, Dr. Grover Schleifer, Newell Graham, Dr. Steve Harpole, Dr. Jody Harpole, Bill Townes, Danny Smith, Dr. Barry Cutright, Allen Nohsey, Norman Carl, Dr. David Harpole, Jr., Jimmy Jones and John Harpole.

Honorary pallbearers will be Doug Snider, Bobby Wyatt, Bob Nichols, Steve Stone, Tommy Jernigan, Preston Bland, Sammy Nailling and Dr. Larry Buckles.

Edmaiston Mosley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Bill was born November 11, 1946, in Memphis, son of the late Dr. William B. Dunlap, Sr. and the late Elizabeth (Harpole) Dunlap. He married Alice (Cloys) Dunlap April 10, 1965. She survives. Bill attended Union City High School and was a 1964 graduate of Columbia Military Academy in Columbia, Tennessee. He attended the University of Tennessee at Martin and was a 1972 graduate of Southern College of Optometry in Memphis. After graduation he joined his father in the family optometric practice. Bill was one of the founding investors of the former First Volunteer Bank in Union City now known as First Citizens Bank where he served on the board of directors for many years. Bill was a member of St. James Episcopal Church in Union City, had been a member of the Union City Kiwanis Club where he had served as president, had been a member of the Union City Rotary Club, served on the United Way of Obion County board where he served as chairman and was a former member of Poplar Meadows Country Club.

He is also survived by his son, William B. "Brooks" Dunlap, III of Cordova; his sister-in-law and her husband, Theresa and Norman Carl of Nashville; one niece, Sarah Carl Croset and her husband Sam of Basel, Switzerland; one great niece, Tess Evelyne Croset of Basel, Switzerland; and several cousins.

He was also preceded in death by one son, John Cloys Dunlap; and one sister, Alice Dunlap.
