August 23, 1935 – January 15, 2020
Annie Ruth Taylor Poore, 84, died at 10:45 a.m. on January 15, 2020, at The Waters in Union City. Mrs. Poore lived in Union City most of her adult life until moving to Kenton to live with her son in December 2016.
Funeral services for Annie will be held at the Union City Cumberland Presbyterian Church at the corner of Home and Church Streets at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 18, 2020, with Brother Glenn Watts officiating. Visitation will also be at the church on Friday evening, January 17, 2020, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The family will also receive visitors from 8:00 a.m. on Saturday until the services at 9:00 a.m. A private family burial will follow in Kenton's Sunnyside Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be her only granddaughter Monica Lannom; her grandsons Jared Poore, Caleb Poore, and Jeremy Roney; grandson-in-law Justin Lannom; and son-in-law Bill Fry.
Mrs. Poore's other grandson Isaac Poore will be a pallbearer in-absentia, via FaceTime from New Zealand.
Music will be conducted by her son Michael Poore and will include songs by him and Mrs. Poore's daughter Teresa Fry. Another song will be presented by Mrs. Poore's grandson Jared Poore and his three daughters: Jules, Micah, and Aubri, three of Mrs. Poore's nine great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Poore's other great-grandchildren are Preston, Lena, and Taylor Lannom of Union City and Kaylee, Ryne, and Memphis Roney of Union City. Mrs. Poore also has one step-grandson Ethan Burke of Union City. Mrs. Poore also leaves behind two granddaughters-in-law: Megan Poore, Jared's wife, and Jennifer Roney, Jeremy's wife.
Mrs. Poore was born August 23, 1935, to H. W. Taylor, Sr. and Lena Mitchell Taylor, who both preceded her in death. Mrs. Poore attended and graduated from Rives High School in 1953 and was a standout basketball player, "one of the best and toughest guards ever" her opposing coach the Late Bobby Seals said. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Poore had four brothers and two sisters to precede her in death: H. W. "Bill" Taylor, Jr.; Virginia Taylor Latimer; James Mitchell Taylor; Harold Thomas Taylor; Charles Lynn Taylor, and Laura LaNell Taylor Wilson. She is survived by one sister, Mrs. Minnie Taylor McDaniel Pair of Union City.
Mrs. Poore retired from Kohler, Inc. where she served as production control supervisor. She worked there from 1977 until 1997. Before that she worked at Evan's Drug Store, Salant & Salant, and Reelfoot Packing Company. Two fun facts that her children remember are that she served as the vice-president of the Tennessee PTA in the late 1960s and also won the Tennessee Women's Bowling Doubles Championship with Ruby Jones, Union City, in 1967.
Mrs. Poore was christened at the Central Union Methodist Church by the late Reverend Curtis Mann near Rives and later was a member of Exchange Street Church of Christ, where she was baptized by former pastor Lexie Ray.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be given to the Union City Cumberland Presbyterian Church music program (631 East Church Street, Union City, TN 38261). Mrs. Poore's son Michael is the music director there.
Edmaiston-Mosley Funeral Home is in charge of the services.
